Jose Eduardo Lopez
Ghent Memorial by Marf

JOSÉ EDUARDO LÓPEZ  was a freelance journalist and human rights activist in Honduras who was abducted in 1984 by armed men and 'disappeared'.  In 1993 it was confirmed that Eduardo had been taken by the security forces of the Honduran government, tortured, executed and buried in a clandestine cemetery.

In Canada, the José Eduardo López Memorial Scholarship was launched in 2009.  In the absence of a grave, Eduardo's family and their friends decided to honor his memory and legacy by starting this memorial scholarship. It provides financial support to youth aged 17 to 24, of Latin descent with an academic average of 80% who have already been accepted in a post-secondary institution.

This project is possible thanks to the support and financial contributions of community members, family, friends and local businesses.
